The Cameron Park Zoo – or what not to do during Spring Break

Waco has a beautiful zoo and since we only live about an hour from there we like to go every once in a while.  It does not have the greatest selection of animals, it is not the biggest zoo, but the layout is very conducive to taking your small children there.  Cameronparkzoo has a beautiful walk through the various exhibits that our kids enjoy.  Something that can easily be done in about 2 hours without the feeling that one had to rush through it or miss most of it before the kids lose their interest.

Whenever one gets tired, there is a bench, or a play park for the kids to burn some energy.  No steps to negotiate either which one starts to appreciated pushing the stoller around.

So why is it not a good idea to visit during spring break?  Having grown accustomed to drive right up when we visited during the middle of the week, we were a little shocked to see the parking being full.

We did see the overflow parking before when we visited and at the time it seemed a little excessive – now we know why.  The lines were long, but the zoo is worth the wait.  What else to do after driving an hour without little planning 🙂

Here is another tip for going to the zoo – come early in the morning when the animals are more active – for these lions it matters little though:
